One-Day Cup 2024: Race Wide Open For Semi-Finals Spots

The One-Day Cup 2024 has reached the middle of the later stage of the tournament.  With eight games left in each group, the battle for semi-final spot is wide open.

The One-Day Cup is a limited overs cricket competition in England and Wales organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board. The tournament has a List A cricket status, with all eighteen first-class counties contesting in the competition.

One-Day Cup 2024: Format

The 18 teams are divided in two groups, Group A and Group B.

Group A consists of Lancashire, Worcestershire, Kent, Middlesex, Durham, Hampshire, Northamptonshire, Somerset and Derbyshire.

Group B comprises Essex, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Surrey, Glamorgan, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and Sussex.

The winner of each group will advance straight to the semi-finals, with the second and third placed teams of Group A going for a play-off match against the third and second placed teams of Group B respectively.

Battle for Semis

Worcestershire, Hampshire Derbyshire are jammed together with eight points at Group A of the One-Day Cup 2024 with Somerset leading the Group with 10 points. There are still eight games to go in group A which makes the calculations interesting.

As far as Group B of the One-Day Cup 2024 is concerned, Glamorgan and Warwickshire are leading the table with 11 points each, and both the teams have two matches left to play in the group. Gloucestershire and Leicestershire have eight points each at third and fourth places respectively. With eight matches still to be played in the group.

Both the semi-finals will be played on August 18. The One-Day Cup 2024 which started on July 24 2024 will culminate on 22 September 2024.
