One of the mightiest rivalries in the field of cricket is set to unfold at the Caribbean. Australia and England are set to lock horns in the group clash of the T20 World Cup 2024. The rivalry that began on the Ashes grounds, has snowballed into the white-ball game format too.

When the two teams hit the pitch at the Kensington Oval, they would be faced with some old World Cup memories. Because 14 years ago at the same venue the two sides clashed in the final of the 2010 World T20, which England won by seven wickets.

England coach Matthew Mott, an Australian himself, said, “Australia is a big game. It will be a fantastic contest between two very good teams”.

For the men in blue, Joffra Archer, who is returning after four years due to a long injury, would be a player to watch out for. England’s top order would be enriched by Joss Butler, who has come from a splendid stint in the IPL 2024.

For the Australian side, hopes would be pinned on the very in-form Travis Head after his swashbuckling knocks in the IPL. On the other hand, all-rounder Pat Cummins is someone the opponent has been dreading to face for his phenomenal performance in recent matches.

Talking about the match ups, Australian Opener Travid Head would be up against England’s pacer-duo Joffra Archer and Mark Wood.

Australia’s Pat Cummins has dismissed England batter Joss Buttler nine times, the most to scalp him by any bowler.

  • Ben Stokes vs Australia

England all-rounder Ben Stokes against the whole Australian team as he has been Australia’s kryptonite with both bat and ball.   

England is the defending champion winning the 2022 T20 World Cup while Australia won the trophy in 2021.

“Everyone talks about rivalry with the Ashes and that, but it’s T20 cricket. They are the reigning champions, we have to respect that. We’ve got to come out here and be on our game. It would be great to get momentum and get one up on them, because you never know in these games, someone can turn it on and you can lose one.

In the ICC ODI World Cup, England and Australia have taken on each other 10 times. Australia has emerged victorious on seven of the 10 occasions.

While Australia in overall is well ahead of England in ODI and test cricket, in the T20s, England leads Australia by 1 win.

Australia has won five of the six T20 matches they played this year so far.

Australia in their last group match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Oman. On the other hand, England had to share points with Scotland as the group match was abandoned due to bad weather. Therefore, it is all the more significant for England to get those crucial two points in the table.
