3 Problems That MINY Need To Fix In MLC

Must read

The Mumbai Indians franchise is having a terrible year as their teams struggle in the top three major T20 cricket leagues in the world.

The Mumbai Indians were left at the bottom of the table in the Indian Premier League 2024. MI Cape Town came last in the SA20 with only three wins from seven games.

Presently, MI New York (MINY) has managed only one win from five Major League Cricket (MLC) games. The defending champions have had a horrible campaign so far despite having top players on their side.
They lost to Washington Freedom by a huge margin of 94 runs, as they got all-out for 88 runs within 14 overs while chasing 183 runs.

Here are three reasons why MI New York is struggling in MLC:

Inexperienced Top Order

The top order comprising Steven Taylor, Shayan Jahangir, Monank Patel, and Dewald Brevis has shown a lack of experience. The top guns failed to fire, resulting in the collapse of the batting order. They have cheaply given away their wickets. Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard have been left helpless in the middle order. The batting order has been largely dependent on Pooran.

Poor Captaincy

Kieron Pollard has not been in the best of his form as a captain. Some poor decisions taken by him have proved perilous for MINY For instance, playing Dewald Brevis during power-play against the Freedom was not too visionary. Dropping Kagiso Rabada was another blunder. Rabada is not a player to be dropped just because he went wicketless the previous game. Not playing Anrich Nortje, too, dampened the bowling attack of MI NY.

Over –Dependence on Rashid Khan

All-rounder Rashid Khan has proved his worth with both bat and ball. He has covered for the poor forms of the batters and held the bowling attack at the same time. Since the team do not look well-balanced, the responsibility had fallen upon Rashid. Over-dependence for a single player is never a good sign for any side.
