Australian batter Travis Head has decided against taking a break following the T20 World Cup and will join fellow compatriot Steven Smith at Washington Freedom for the second season of Major League Cricket.
Head was visibly tired at the end of the Australian summer and needed a rest during the home white-ball series against West Indies in February while currently playing the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Head has elected to resume a hectic 2024 playing schedule by signing with Freedom. Head will play under new coach and former Australia captain Ricky Ponting just a week after Smith joined the franchise.
Freedom recently announced the signing of New Zealand allrounder Rachin Ravindra and retained targets of past season overseas players Marco Jansen and Akeal Hosein from the 2023 season.
Head becomes the fifth confirmed Australian signing for MLC Season 2 after Smith, Adam Zampa, and Spencer Johnson signed for Los Angeles Knight Riders and Tim David signed for MI New York.
The MLC Season 2 will begin immediately after the T20 World Cup until June 29th in the host countries USA and West Indies and many more Australians are expected to be confirmed for the popular tournament.
Australia has no international commitments following the T20 World Cup until a white ball tour of England in September hence Head and Smith will participate in the MLC.
