In a gripping finale to the inaugural US Masters T10 tournament, the Texas Chargers emerged victorious against the New York Warriors after a nail-biting clash that required a Super Over to determine the winner. The intense showdown unfolded on Sunday, following a grueling day for the Texas Chargers, who played an eliminator and a qualifier on the preceding Saturday.
The final encounter between the Texas Chargers and the New York Warriors saw both teams tied at 92 runs each at the end of their allotted overs. The match then proceeded to a one-over shootout, where the spotlight fell on two remarkable performers named Sohail – Sohail Khan and Sohail Tanvir. Sohail Khan, who had showcased his bowling prowess earlier in the match with a remarkable five-wicket haul, limited the Texas Chargers to a total of 15 runs in the Super Over, with Mukhtar Ahmed striking a last-ball six.
The task to secure victory fell to Sohail Tanvir, who exhibited nerves of steel as he guided the New York Warriors in their Super Over chase. Despite a last-ball six from Jonathan Carter, Tanvir managed to restrict New York to two runs short of the target, securing a thrilling triumph for the Texas Chargers.
Sohail Khan’s exceptional performance played a pivotal role in forcing the game into the tie-breaker. His fiery bowling spell in the ninth over accounted for crucial wickets, including those of Upul Tharanga, Phil Mustard, Thisara Perera, and Neil Broom, propelling the match into a gripping climax.
The Texas Chargers’ victory was underpinned by the standout performances of Mohammad Hafeez and Ben Dunk. The duo stitched together a crucial partnership of 46 runs for the second wicket, with Hafeez smashing 46 runs off just 17 deliveries, and Dunk contributing 20 runs from 12 balls.
While New York Warriors fought valiantly, their efforts to build momentum were thwarted by the Texas Chargers’ bowling attack, particularly the two-over burst of 3 for 11 by Ehsan Adil. Despite Jonathan Carter’s spirited innings of 39 not out from 17 balls, the New York Warriors fell short in their pursuit of victory.
