Steve Smith, a legend in Australian cricket, has signed a contract with the Washington Freedom for the Major League Cricket (MLC) second season, which begins on July 4. Smith is ready to make an impression in the American cricket scene. After the T20 World Cup, Smith plans to go to Washington in order to resume his Australian career.
Teaming up with his former national teammate and coach, Ricky Ponting, Smith’s arrival adds to the growing Australian influence in the American T20 competition. The Washington Freedom, one of the league’s foundation teams, already boasts a strong Australian connection, having featured stars like Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Finch in the inaugural season.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new chapter in his career, Smith shared a video message, stating, “I’m super excited… I can’t wait to meet all of my new teammates and play in front of some incredible crowds in America.” He also highlighted his eagerness to collaborate with Ponting and the coaching staff.
