Former Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane is all set to lay for Leicestershire in the final five matches of the 2024 County Championship. The right-hand batter was due to link up with the county next season but had to withdraw his name due to international commitments. Rahane is expected to come in as a cover for South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder who is expected to represent South Africa in an all-format tour of the West Indies in August.

Reacting to his county stint with Leicestershire Rahane said “I’m really excited to have another opportunity to come to Leicestershire. I’ve built a strong rapport with Claude (Henderson) and Alfonso (Thomas), and I’m looking forward to playing for the Club this summer.

Rahane has represented India in 195 international matches and has scored over 8000 runs across formats with 51 centuries registered to his name.
