Worcestershire recently announced a significant change in its squad for the 2025 season, as New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy bids farewell to the club. He will be replaced by Pakistani all-rounder Khurram Shahzad to boost their lineup for the remainder of the season.
Why Is Jacob Duffy Leaving?
Jacob Duffy‘s departure from Worcestershire comes after a notable stint with the club. He has been an important player for the club since signing a short-term contract for the first half of the 2025 season. His tenure included participation in six red-ball matches and several T20 Blast games. He will be leaving the club due to the end of his contract as the game progresses towards its second half.
Khurram Shahzad To Debut For Worcestershire
In place of Duffy, Worcestershire has secured Khurram Shahzad, a promising all-rounder. He is expected to add versatility to the team. He has built his reputation as a skilled pacer and has an impressive domestic cricket record, having taken 201 wickets in first-class matches at an average of 26, along with 111 wickets across 87 List A and T20 matches.
He will be joining Worcestershire debut in the T20 Blast against Yorkshire on 4 July 2025.
Reflecting on the joining, he shared, “Joining a club like Worcestershire and getting the chance to enhance my skills is something I’m really excited about. I’ve always had ambitions to play in England, so this was an opportunity I was eager to take. I can’t wait to get started and contribute across all formats.”
Head coach Alan Richardson shared his excitement and said, “Not only does he offer us a great option with his ability to swing the ball and consistently bowl over 80mph, but his experience will also be invaluable in the dressing room, especially for our younger bowlers.”
