Shan Masood, Pakistan’s national team captain, signed an all-format deal with Leicestershire for the 2025 season. This contract marks his debut, following his successful stint as the captain of Yorkshire in 2024. Masood is expected to make his debut for Leicestershire on 31 May 2025 against Derbyshire, whom he had formerly played for in 2022. He has had a great track record in county cricket as he made his impressive debut with Derbyshire in 2022 and scored 1,832 runs in 28 matches, after which he joined Yorkshire as a captain and led the team to promotion to Division One last year.

Shan Masood might miss some of the initial matches of the championship due to his prior commitments to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) but is expected to start in May. He expressed his excitement about the same and said in a statement, “I am really excited to have the chance to play all three formats for Leicestershire. I have always admired the Club and have had great conversations with a lot of the team during the last three seasons,”
“I love playing at Uptonsteel County Ground. The fans get behind the team in strong numbers and the games I have been a part of have always been a great spectacle. The Club has been very competitive in all formats and produced some fantastic young players over the last few years. It is an exciting time to join the Foxes,” he added.
Claude Henderson, Director of Cricket, shared his thoughts and said, “We are delighted to welcome someone of Shan’s calibre to Leicestershire. He is a proven talent both internationally and in county cricket, and someone who can win matches in all three formats. Shan completes a fantastic lineup of overseas additions to our squad. His leadership and experience will be invaluable to the team both on and off the pitch.”
Shan Masood has proven to be a great addition to the team throughout his career, especially during his captaincy years. As a Test captain, he scored two centuries and scored a total of 2,000 career runs. He became the 17th Pakistan captain to score a Test hundred. Under his leadership, Pakistan won the series against England.

He’s also not new to county cricket and performed outstandingly for Derbyshire in 2022. In his first season, he scored 1,078 runs with two double centuries. He was also named the Player of the Month in 2022 April for being the leading run-scorer. For Yorkshire, too, he scored a total of 1,240 runs during the season 2023-2024 and led the team to promotion to Division One in 2024. It will be interesting to see how he contributes to his new club, Leicestershire, marking a new chapter in his journey.
