AUS vs NZ, Women T20 World Cup: Australia defeated New Zealand by 60 runs, like India, Kiwis’ NRR also reached negative

The battle for the semi-finals in the Women’s T20 World Cup has intensified. Australia defeated New Zealand in the Group A match and secured the table-top position. Their reaching the semi-finals is almost certain, but the real battle is for the second position, in which India is also a contender.

After a brilliant performance by its batsmen on a slow wicket, Australia defeated New Zealand by 60 runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup match on Tuesday on the basis of Megan Shut’s excellent bowling.

Opener Beth Mooney scored 40 runs in 32 balls, with the help of which Australia scored 148 runs for eight wickets. Ellyse Perry contributed 30 runs in 24 balls and Alyssa Healy contributed 26 runs in 20 balls.

In reply, New Zealand’s team was all out for 88 runs in 19.2 overs. Megan Schutt took three wickets for three runs in 3.2 overs. Annabel Sutherland took three wickets for 21 runs and Sophie Molineux took two wickets for 15 runs. After this victory, Australia is on top of Group A by winning both the matches.

Batting first, Mooney and Healy gave a great start to the six-time champion Australia. Both scored 41 runs in 5.2 overs. Healy was given LBW by left-arm spinner Fran Jonas, but after taking a review, the umpire’s decision was changed because the ball had hit the pad.

Healy hit two fours to Aiden Carson in the next over. For New Zealand, Amelia Kerr took four wickets for 26 runs and also took a brilliant return catch of Phoebe Litchfield.

Now if we look at Group A, Australia is on top of the points table by winning both its matches. Pakistan is at number two. With this defeat, New Zealand has come to number three and its net run rate is in negative. India will want to improve its net run rate by defeating Sri Lanka on October 9 and one defeat means game over.
