<p>The English seamer has taken a total of 704 international test wickets for England and 991 in total including the T20 and ODI format. He was able to achieve the feat of a five-wicket haul 34 times in international cricket across all formats.</p>
<h2>Zaheer Khan, the Archies Angel for James Anderson</h2>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2190" src="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Zaheer-Khan-of-India-bowls-during-day-one-of-the-2nd-Test-match-between-New-Zealan.jpg" alt="EXPLAINED -How Zaheer Khan Helped James Anderson In Becoming The No. 1 Test Seamer" width="1200" height="678" srcset="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Zaheer-Khan-of-India-bowls-during-day-one-of-the-2nd-Test-match-between-New-Zealan.jpg 628w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Zaheer-Khan-of-India-bowls-during-day-one-of-the-2nd-Test-match-between-New-Zealan-300x170.jpg 300w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Zaheer-Khan-of-India-bowls-during-day-one-of-the-2nd-Test-match-between-New-Zealan-150x85.jpg 150w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>James Anderson was a talented seamer who had the ability to swing the ball in both directions with the new and old ball. His seam position was his key factor in defining the crazy inches of swing for a batsman to play on a medium pacer.</p>
<p>Although, playing for the nation and taking international wickets is already a big feat to achieve and the destiny of many aspiring cricketers, Anderson had a zeal for achieving the best and more for his nation. If we talk about the stats of Jimmy, he had an average start in the Test format with a satisfactory performance for the team.</p>
<p>Jimmy had a shabby start in his 20s in the test format, he almost averaged almost 40 with an economy rate of 3.7. Till the time he turned  24, he got the opportunity to play 18 tests and took 54 wickets which is quite impressive too, and achieved the five-wicket haul thrice with an average of 37 approximately.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2188" src="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/20927.3.webp" alt="EXPLAINED -How Zaheer Khan Helped James Anderson In Becoming The No. 1 Test Seamer" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/20927.3.webp 900w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/20927.3-300x169.webp 300w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/20927.3-768x432.webp 768w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/20927.3-150x84.webp 150w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/20927.3-696x391.webp 696w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>Jimmy&#8217;s career took a turn when he learned a few techniques from the great Indian left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan. Zaheer was approximately highly skilled in 6 variations, he mastered the art of swing in the Asian continent where there&#8217;s usually no helping factor as overcast conditions for a seamer to get an advantage.</p>
<p>Being from a thought climate and still delivering the result, caught the eye of Jimmy and he added a few variations to his bucket with the help of assistance from Zaheer Khan in conveying the techniques to support the variations.</p>
<p>After 30 years old, Jimmy achieved an average of 30, and post 35 he was worthy enough to get an impressive average of 21 approximately with 700 international wickets in his hand. He went on to play till 41 years old and was still fit amongst the other younger players in the team, but he had to face a forced retirement to provide the chances to the younger generations and make a stronger constant side before the real action in WTC.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2187" src="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/James-Anderson-e1598429395898.jpg" alt="EXPLAINED -How Zaheer Khan Helped James Anderson In Becoming The No. 1 Test Seamer" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/James-Anderson-e1598429395898.jpg 976w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/James-Anderson-e1598429395898-300x169.jpg 300w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/James-Anderson-e1598429395898-768x432.jpg 768w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/James-Anderson-e1598429395898-150x84.jpg 150w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/James-Anderson-e1598429395898-696x392.jpg 696w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>If we have a look at the charts, the Pacers are usually not the ones who can last this much in their career and Jimmy did not only just last, he was even getting better with his age and improving stats after every match.</p>
<p>The question arises- why<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Anderson_(cricketer)" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> James Anderson</a> was able to achieve this feat when Zaheer Khan himself played 91 Test matches?</p>
<p>The answer to this question is, that Zaheer Khan was a bowler from the Asian continent where he got to play most matches at home and in Asia where the pitch was slow and dry, with a higher friction present on the ground.</p>
<p>Zaheer Khan took 311 international test wickets for India in 91 matches. Due to injuries, his career was also not as big as compared of Jimmy who played till 41 in England. If we talk about the climate in England, Jimmy gets an added advantage to playing Tests in his home country.</p>
<p>England has a cooler climate as compared to Asian countries where the overcasting conditions of the English climate help the seamers to get an added advantage for the movement of the ball, where Zaheer Khan showed the world how the proper use of seam positions, run-ups, and many other factors which help in improving the techniques of a seamer can destroy the opponents in any climate.</p>
<p>After learning the new techniques, Jimmy&#8217;s stats started to boom like no other seamer in the world. Have a look at the table mentioned below showing his stats before and after 35:</p>
<p>Host Country | Before 35 | After 35 | % Improved |</p>
<p>1 SL                  40.72         21.57           47.0<br />
2 WI                 38.00         20.40           46.3<br />
3 UAE               27.66         15.61           43.6<br />
4 SA                 38.72         30.00           22.5<br />
5 ENG               27.53         21.42           22.2<br />
6 NZ                 35.37         31.66           10.5<br />
7 AUS               35.79         32.69            8.7<br />
8 IND               29.30          29.33          -0.0</p>
<p>Without a doubt, James Anderson was one of the best talents that England has ever produced in the history of cricket and he delivered the best from his end to set probably an undefeatable record of most international wickets in the Test format by a seamer, that is 704.</p>

Cricket in this country holds a lot of history from over five hundred years. The oldest cricket ground in the world is located in London, England, which was established in the year 1787 and is known as the home of cricket.</p>
<p>There are eleven international cricket stadiums in England: Lords, Kennington Oval, Trent Bridge, Old Trafford, The Rose Bowl, County Cricket Ground (Bristol), County Cricket Ground (Chelmsford), Headingley, Sophia Gardens, Riverside Ground, and Edgbaston.</p>
<h2>Records of the England cricket team</h2>
<p><strong>Highest Totals in Test, ODI, and T20</strong></p>

<p>In the Test format, England scored a mammoth total of 903/7D against Australia in the Kennington Oval Ground during the Ashes series in 1938, 20th August. In that match, three English batsmen scored centuries, while two scored half centuries, and the rest were dismissed early. Leonard Hutton played an innings of 364 runs, and the most interesting fact is he opened for England and stayed on the pitch throughout the innings. Followed by Maurice Leyland’s 187 and Joe Hardstaff’s 169*.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2016" src="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-4.jpg" alt="Rare Records of the England Cricket Team's Innings" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-4.jpg 1200w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-4-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-4-768x432.jpg 768w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-4-150x84.jpg 150w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-4-696x392.jpg 696w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-4-1068x601.jpg 1068w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>In the ODI format, a giant total of 498 was scored against the Netherlands in the Amstelveen Stadium on 17th June 2022. The captain of the England cricket team was Eoin Morgan, who got a duck in that match unfortunately, while Jos Buttler, the current captain of the white ball cricket team, played a sensational knock of 162* runs. Along with him, David Malan and Phil Salt scored centuries at the initial stage of the inning, contributing 122 and 125 runs, respectively, and finished explosively with Liam Livinstone’s 66 not out.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2015" src="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-5.jpg" alt="Rare Records of the England Cricket Team's Innings" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-5.jpg 1200w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-5-300x169.jpg 300w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-5-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-5-768x432.jpg 768w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-5-150x84.jpg 150w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-5-696x392.jpg 696w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-5-1068x601.jpg 1068w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>In the T20I format, English batsmen became a beast when they put up a total of 267 runs against the West Indies in the year 2023. December 19th. Phil Salt played an explosive innings of 119 runs. Along with him, Jos Buttler supported him to put up a big total by smashing a half century and later continued destruction by Liam Livingstone, scoring 51 crucial runs to contribute to this record-breaking total.</p>
<p><strong>Largest victories of team England</strong></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2021" src="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-8.jpg" alt="Rare Records of the England Cricket Team's Innings" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-8.jpg 1200w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-8-300x169.jpg 300w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-8-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-8-768x432.jpg 768w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-8-150x84.jpg 150w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-8-696x392.jpg 696w, https://cricketcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Untitled-design-8-1068x601.jpg 1068w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>In Test cricket, England played its ashes series against Australia in 1938, when the English athletes managed to grab a huge victory against the Aussies of 579 runs and an innings. That was also the match in which England scored its highest total, and Lenard Hutton remained the highest individual best scorer for England even after eight decades.</p>

<p>In the ODI format, once again the Ashes rivals played against each other, and England scored one of the highest totals in ODI. Australia lost the match by a margin of 242 runs, which was not even half of what English cricketers made. This match took place on 19th June 2018, in Nottingham.</p>

<p>In the shortest white ball format, T20. West Indies lost its second match of the T20 series against England by 137 runs as they were not even able to cross the score of 50. West Indies was only able to make 45 runs where they got all out and had a target of 182 to chase.</p>

<p>England has produced some of the finest cricketers of all time, such as Alistair Cook, Joe Root,<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Anderson_(cricketer)" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> James Andserson</a>, Jos Buttler, and Stuart Broad. Now to think about the world records in terms of these players. Alistair Cook holds the record for being in fifth position in the world for making most runs for his team in Test cricket, and Joe Root, who has recently picked up great form, is also in that list at number seven.</p>

<p>Whereas in bowling, James Anderson is the most legendary bowler in the world. He completed his 700 international wickets record in the Test Match; his last match was against the West Indies, where he retired from all forms of cricket.</p>
