Lord’s Cricket Ground was established in 1787 and is considered the cathedral of cricket, steeped in history. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a die-hard cricket fan or just a sports enthusiast; Lord’s Cricket Ground is a must-watch once in your life. The home of cricket is where the Ashes began.

It is one of the three grounds made by the former England cricketer Thomas Lord. It was initially just a duck pond but was made into a cricket ground, and the first match played in the ground was in 1814, but the first international match was between England and Australia in 1884 for the 2nd Test match of their series, in which Allan Steel played an innings of 148 runs, which led his team (England) to win the match.

Later in 1972, England and Australia played the first ever ODI match at the Lord’s as well, in which Australia won the match by 5 wickets against England. In 2009, Lord’s started hosting T20 matches as well. Its first ever T20 was held between England and the Netherlands in the World Twenty20 League, which the Netherlands won by 4 wickets with the help of a great knock by Tom de Grooth.

Lord’s is the home ground for Marylebone Cricket Club and the Middlesex County Cricket team; the stadium has a capacity of 31,100 people.

This record is backed by the great Australian team of 726/6D against England in 1930, which is the highest test score as well. Australia won the match by 7 wickets with the help of Don Bradman’s knock of 254 and an aided innings of 155 by the skipper Bill Woodfull, helping the Aussies to a colossal total after England made 425 in their first innings.

This total score was registered in a match between Ireland and England test series. Ireland was chasing a target of 182 runs, but England dismissed the visitors within 15.4 overs, and they just managed to make a total of 38 runs. Chris Woakes’ fiery spell took six wickets from the opponents, and James McCollum was the only batsman from Ireland to score in two digits.

2015 runs in total are made by the batsman Graham Gooch in 22 matches with an average of 53.02. The England cricketer holds the record for most runs at the Lord’s cricket ground.

This score is also backed by the same English batsman Graham Gooch’s 333 runs against India in 1990, which helped England register their highest test win against India. His blistering innings helped England to achieve a victory of 247 runs against India, which included 43 boundaries from the skipper Graham and two sixes.

James Anderson holds this record at the Lord’s Cricket Ground for taking the most wickets till now, summing up to 117 wickets in 27 matches with an economy of 2.71. Recently James retired from international cricket, and he played his last test match at Lord’s, where his family rang the grand bell in the test series against the West Indies.

Best bowling figures in a match

This record is being held by Bob Massey at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, where he took 16 wickets with an expense of 137 runs against England for Australia in 1972 at the Lord’s cricket ground. He took an 8-wicket haul in the first innings, and then later in the 2nd innings, he completed the match with another eight wickets with an economy of 1.93 and bowled a total of 27.2 overs.

Best bowling figures in an innings

This record also consists of an eight-wicket haul with a lesser expense of runs; it is registered in the name of Ian Botham, who took eight wickets with an expense of 37 runs against Pakistan in a 1978 test match in Lord’s cricket ground. He went wicketless in the first inning, but later in the second inning, he delivered a record-breaking performance for England, which helped them grab a win of over 127 runs and an inning.
