India’s latest performance under Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy

The performance of the Indian women’s team in the current Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 has been disappointing. The team started its campaign with a defeat against New Zealand and then won a marginal victory against Pakistan.

Apart from this, the Indian team defeated Sri Lanka, but lost the important match against Australia, causing them to exit the group stage of the tournament.

Looking at the performance of the team in the tournament, the BCCI is now considering taking some tough decisions. Actually, the BCCI has made up its mind to consider a change in captaincy after the Indian team’s early exit in the Women’s T20 World Cup.

According to reports, the BCCI will hold a meeting with the selection committee and head coach Amol Majumdar to discuss Harman’s future as captain.

It is worth noting that this meeting is expected to take place before the announcement of the Indian women’s team for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. If reports are to be believed, there is no threat to Harmanpreet Kaur’s place in the team, but the contract of a support staff may not be renewed.

The board may take away the captaincy from Harmanpreet Kaur

A source quoted by News 18 said, “The BCCI will definitely discuss whether to have a new captain on the board going forward. The Indian board has provided everything the team wanted, and we feel it is now time for a new face to lead the team.

Harmanpreet will continue to be an important member of the team, but the BCCI feels it is time for a change.’

Let us tell you that Harmanpreet Kaur was appointed as the captain of India in 2016 and under her captaincy, the team managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2018 and 2023, even in 2020, Team India played the final under her captaincy.
