Shoaib Bashir’s journey hasn’t been smooth in county cricket. He burst onto the scene with his red-ball debut for Somerset in 2023, but chances were scarce thanks to Jack Leach holding the fort. In 10 matches for the club, he grabbed just 14 wickets, with his last outing in 2024. To get game time, he went on loan last year first to Worcestershire, where he played five Blast games and one Championship match against Surrey, snaring two wickets.

Earlier this year, he linked up with Glamorgan for three games, standing in for the injured Mason Crane and picking up two more wickets in five innings. Overall, his County Championship stats show 18 wickets at an average of 84, not the fireworks we’ve seen in Tests.

Vitality Blast 2026 Men’s Competition

The Vitality Blast 2026 will feature a revamped format mostly focused on enhancing the competitive edge and fan experience. The men’s competition now consists of 12 group-stage matches within three groups of six teams each. Counties will play the other five teams in their group both home and away, plus two extra matches against teams from outside their groups, one home and one away. This structure creates a more balanced and engaging league phase.

Quarter-finals

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals, in addition to the two best third-placed teams. The winners of each quarter-final qualify for Vitality Blast 2026 Men’s Finals Day.

First matches

Following the changes to the group-stage format, where counties will play two other counties from outside their group, there will be three matches where counties have never played each other before in the Vitality Blast Men’s Competition.

Vitality Blast 2026 Women’s Competition (Tier 1)

Similarly, the women’s Blast follows a parallel format, playing exciting fixtures across counties, with the aim to mirror the men’s competition setup more closely than ever before. Notably, both men’s and women’s fixtures include many double-header events on the same day at key venues, making it a cricketing festival for fans attending the games.

Group: Durham, Essex, Hampshire Hawks, Lancashire Thunder, Somerset, Surrey, The Blaze, Warwickshire Bears, Yorkshire.

Group-stage matches

Each county will play 12 group-stage matches – six home and six away. They will play four counties twice and four counties once.

Knockout stage

The top four counties at the end of the group stage will progress to Women’s Vitality Blast Women’s Finals Day, which will include two semi-finals and the Final.
