Greater Noida is ready for big cricket action as the Big Cricket League (BCL), the world’s first pro-am cricket league, prepares for its second season. Season 2 will be hosted at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium, Greater Noida.

The league will take place from 11th March to 22nd March 2026. During this time, Greater Noida will become the centre of top-level Pro-Am cricket.

After the strong response to Season 1, the league is returning bigger and stronger. Season 2 will feature well-known international cricketers along with some of India’s most talented amateur players. The aim is to build a strong performance-based cricket system where professionals and amateurs compete together.

The player auction on 16th February 2026 is expected to attract major attention. Teams will carefully select their squads by mixing international stars with talented amateur players.

Season 1 included famous international cricketers such as Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Herschelle Gibbs and Imran Tahir. Their presence added strong value and credibility to the league. Season 2 is expected to raise the level even higher, with more international cricketers joining, bringing more excitement for fans.

ICC Puts Cricket Kenya on the Edge: Cricket Kenya is walking on thin ice. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has placed the country on a high-risk watch list, citing governance disputes inside Cricket Kenya that continue to spiral out of control. If the wrangles persist, Kenya risks suspension, a move that would freeze international funding and shut the country out of ICC-sanctioned tournaments.

A senior government official has already sounded the alarm, saying, “The ICC position as at now is that Kenya is in breach of their membership criteria,” and warning that suspension looms large.

To prevent a full suspension, a majority of Cricket Kenya’s board members have tightened their grip. They accuse a faction of destabilizing the game and have moved decisively against top officials.

In June, Chairman Manoj Patel was stripped of all executive powers. This month, the board turned its guns on Acting Treasurer Kennedy Obuya. At a Wednesday meeting, six directors – Pearlyne Omamo, Thomas Odoyo, Tariq Iqbal, Beryl Oyugi, Mary Maina, and Pauline Njeru – unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in Obuya, with CEO Ronald Bukusi also in attendance.

The resolution accused him of abuse of office, mismanagement of resources, failure to carry out his duties, and tarnishing the sport’s reputation. The board also barred Patel and Obuya from accessing Cricket Kenya’s bank accounts, instructing the secretary to notify the banks immediately.

Ironically, Obuya had supported Patel’s ouster earlier this year but has since teamed up with him in the current standoff. Together, they held what they called a Special General Meeting (SGM) last Sunday, despite the Sports Registrar confirming its postponement. The majority board dismissed it as unconstitutional and declared all its resolutions null and void.

Instead, they have scheduled a legitimate SGM for October 19, with the sole agenda of electing a new Vice Chairman. Sports Registrar Rose Wasike is expected to attend that meeting.

Kennedy Obuya and Manoj Patel Face Financial Heat

The wrangles have now attracted the attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Cricket Kenya chair Manoj Patel and acting treasurer Kennedy Obuya have been summoned to answer questions about the alleged misappropriation of more than Ksh 26 million.

Letters sent to both officials accuse them of “stealing agent C/sec. 283 of the Penal Code and connected offenses relating to the withdrawal and usage of Ksh 26, 758,114/= in the financial year 2024 being property of Cricket Kenya, an associative sports organization registered under the Sports Act and further allegations.”

Obuya has been ordered to appear before investigators on October 2, while Patel will follow a day later. The letters warn that “failure to comply with these summons constitutes an offense liable to prosecution under Section 52(2) of the National Police Service Act No. 11A of 2011.”

Two Camps, Two Competing Agendas

The Patel-Obuya faction insists the current majority board members are illegitimate, claiming their terms expired. They have even gone as far as appointing Walter Trent as a new CEO to replace Ronald Bukusi, while dismissing any communication from the board as null and void.

On the other hand, the majority faction has been cleaning house. Just two weeks ago, they terminated a contract with a Dubai and India-based sports promotion firm, accusing it of breaching governance standards and trying to improperly influence board members through “financial inducements and external pressure.”

ICC Intervention Could Change Everything

The ICC is following developments with growing concern. The World Body is expected to send a representative to Nairobi soon to meet Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya. Whether the federation can stabilize before then remains the big question.

Australia Survives Middle-Order Collapse in 173-Run Chase

Australia chased 173 with an early flourish courtesy of Mitchell Marsh, who hit early sixes from Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, and a boundary off Kwena Maphaka. Travis Head also gained steam with two boundaries before being dismissed for a laboured 19.

Marsh drove his way to a 35-ball fifty, taking on Senuran Muthusamy with two sixes and keeping the scoreboard moving. But South Africa mounted a comeback, with Maphaka sending Marsh and Cameron Green back in an over to bring the visitors back into the game.

Maxwell’s Match-Winning Knock Saves the Day

With 122/6, the game had begun swinging South Africa’s way, but Glenn Maxwell had otherwise ideas. He waged a measured counterattack, hitting key boundaries against Maphaka, Ngidi, and Rabada. He escorted a scorching 30-ball half-century and turned the game Australia’s way.

In the face of a late setback when Corbin Bosch sent Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis packing, giving away just two runs in the last over before the penultimate one, Maxwell kept his cool. Requiring 10 from the last over, he did a couple, followed by a boundary off point, and concluded the match in fashion with a reverse-hit four that left him unbeaten on 62 off 36 balls.

Brevis Fireworks Light Up South Africa’s Innings

Earlier, South Africa was riding on a scorching knock by young sensation Dewald Brevis, who hammered 53 off a mere 26 balls. After Aiden Markram departed early to Josh Hazlewood, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Brevis gave the team momentum.

Brevis scored his half-century in only 22 balls, the quickest T20I fifty by a South African, also a new record by him, with four huge sixes in an over against Aaron Hardie. But after Nathan Ellis bowled him out with a smart slower bouncer, South Africa lost momentum, folding from 110/3 to 138/6.

Late showers from Rassie van der Dussen (38*), Muthusamy, and Rabada brought them to 172/7, a fighting score, but not quite enough to suppress Maxwell’s brilliance.
